FAQ
Insurance Questions,
Answered Plainly
The questions we hear most from North Alabama families. If yours isn't here, call or send a message — we answer those too, at no cost.
Working With Us
How much does your service cost?
We start with a conversation about your family, health, budget and goals — then compare options from multiple carriers and explain the trade-offs in plain English.
What does 'independent agent' actually mean?
It means we're contracted with many carriers instead of employed by one. We can compare offers side by side and place your coverage wherever it fits you best.
Do you meet in person?
Yes — in person across Madison, Huntsville, Decatur, Florence and Cullman, or by phone and Zoom if that's easier.
How quickly can I get coverage in place?
Some policies are approved same-day with accelerated underwriting. Others take two to six weeks if medical records are required. We'll set expectations up front.
Life Insurance
How much life insurance do I need?
A common starting point is 10–12 times your income, adjusted for your mortgage, debts, education plans and existing coverage. We'll calculate it together.
Term or permanent coverage?
Term is the lowest-cost way to cover a specific period like your working years or mortgage. Permanent lasts for life and builds cash value. Many families use both.
Can I qualify with a health condition?
Often yes. Carriers underwrite conditions very differently, and we place your application where your health history is viewed most favorably.
Medicare
When can I enroll in Medicare?
Your Initial Enrollment Period spans the three months before your 65th birthday month through the three months after. Special enrollment periods apply if you're leaving employer coverage.
Advantage or Supplement — which is better?
Neither is universally better. Advantage plans have lower premiums and network rules; Supplements cost more monthly and offer nationwide provider freedom. It depends on your doctors, travel and budget.
Will my prescriptions be covered?
We check your exact medication list against each plan's formulary and pharmacy pricing before you enroll.
Retirement, Critical
Illness & Long-Term Care
Can I roll over an old 401(k)?
Usually yes, and often without a taxable event. We coordinate the transfer with your custodian and recommend involving your tax professional.
Does Medicare pay for long-term care?
Only limited skilled nursing after a qualifying hospital stay. Ongoing custodial care — help with daily activities — is not covered, which is why a separate plan matters.
What does critical illness insurance pay for?
It pays you a tax-free lump sum after a covered diagnosis. You can use it for anything: deductibles, lost income, travel to treatment, or household bills.
